Hairdressers have many activities relate with chemical substances. This commonly increases the risk of forming dermatitis. If there is no regular treatment, it can be very painful, embarrassing and costly. If you are a hair dresser and suffer from dermatitis, take the appropriate steps to help ease the pain and prevent it from coming back. You should also understand that dermatitis can occur in any place and any time around the year. Some hairdressers can be seriously affected but other might not get it at all. Irritant contact dermatitis appears when you cannot hold up with strong chemicals such as bleach or mid chemicals such as shampoo. These two products are used by hairdressers regularly, and in longer time dermatitis can develop gradually. While allergic contact dermatitis often develops quite quickly after minor contact with substances such as shampoos or coloring agents. Once the allergy has developed, there is a chance to get it for the rest of your life. If you have no allergic to a product, you still have chance to get allergy someday. Dermatitis is basically occurred by frequent wet working especially when you spend long periods of time in contact with water throughout the day. Chemicals in hairdressing products, such as shampoos, colors, bleaches or even the products you use to clean up afterward are responsible to your dermatitis. Even if you handle chemical soaked equipment, touching contaminated clothing, tools or containers, aerosols or even dust landing on your skin can cause dermatitis.
In contrast, you should not worry too much as it can be prevented. You should wear disposable, non-latex gloves when you do coloring, shampooing, bleaching or rinsing hair in a long period. It is better if you change gloves between clients, dry your hands after contacting with water using a paper towel or a soft cotton towel. Dermatologists often suggest you to apply a top quality combined moisturizer and skin protection cream. Usually the cream is waterproof and formulated to be used inside gloves. In addition, if it is possible you can have the same cream at home to get the positive effect during the night. |
