There is several types’ dermatitis and one which can appear on animals is moist dermatitis. It commonly appear anywhere on a dog's body and the area involved can rapidly spread. Bacterial infection is the number one cause but luckily, most bacteria respond to oral and topical antibiotics. These infections usually happen in the summer months and dogs with matted, dirty coats are at greater risk of forming them. That is why dog owners have to shave the thick long haired dogs in the summer. This will prevent them from covering any dampness on the surface of the skin. If you cannot do it yourself, you can ask the specialist to give regular check. It is very common for dog owner come to the vet when the infection is already acute. This is wrong because worse dermatitis can lead to other serious infections. When summer come, it is better time for you to notice more your dog activities and habit. This is important because you will know that there is special different habit to be aware of. A dog will act differently when it feels something wrong, such as scratching or biting at one area regularly and getting hair loss with reddened moist skin. In some cases, the dog will have scabs and crusts and its surrounding hair is wet from saliva. Your veterinarian will do a small diagnose and allergy testing. Then, she will do some certain actions to your dog such as taking a bacteriology swab so that antibiotic is targeted specifically at the bacterium responsible.

But all people also have the risk of getting chemical exposure which leads to contact dermatitis. It can be caused by elements such as poison ivy/sumac/oak, formaldehyde, chlorine, or chemicals contained in grooming or beauty products. The common symptoms are red, dry, itchy, scaly or blistered skin. Sometimes it is covered by a pink or red rash. However, contact dermatitis may irritate large areas over the whole body from the irritant in soap, laundry detergent, and even chlorine found in water. The contact dermatitis treatment is done by avoiding the irritant, so that it is important to remove chlorine from the water used for showers.
